This new model from Thrunite is their latest offering in the “wedge style” flashlight category. The smaller thinner form factor is very popular, and the Defender has a lot to offer.
With a white light, Green Laser pointer and UV, you can not only use it as a normal flashlight, but the pointer for presentations/demonstrations, and UV is ideal for detecting counterfeit note/fluids/dirt etc. Making the defender useful for work or at home or out camping.
Five power levels are present, with a top rating ot 1600 lumens, down to a very low 1 lumen firefly, and strobe.
A built in battery provides ample capacity of 1500mAh, charged via USB-C the flashlight features a 4 stage power/charger level indicator built in above the main rotary switch. Run times are up to 17 days in firefly (1lm) or 59 hours in low (20lm).
Materials as expected from Thrunite are high end, with premium type III hard anodising aluminum alloy, coated toughened glass which resists breaking. IPX8 rated to 2 metres submersion, with a drop test rating of 1.5 metres.
Unlike many similar offerings, the Defender has a magnetic base, which makes it very suitable for use as a working light. A dual stainless steel clip is pre-attached to the body (can be unscrewed).
Convenient size can easily slip into a pocket or jacket, at only 118mm x 29mm x 22mm, weight of just 108g.

An orange peel reflector provides an excellent beam giving a wide spread, but also able to reach 129 metres range at the top Turbo level of 1600 lumens. 4 more levels are here too, including a high of 420 lumens, medium and low of 95 and 20 lumens and the firefly of 1 lumen. Strobe is also present.
The built in UV (365nm) is a nice bonus as is the green laser light (5mW) which has multiple uses. The defender is an all round flashlight which has many applications for users.
UI is very simple, with a rotary switch, which has 4 positions letting you pick the mode, output is selectable via the central button. It’s also useful to have the lock out switch on the rotary dial preventing accidental activation.
