Nitecore NU50 Lightweight and Powerful 1400 lumens Headlamp

Nitecore NU50 Lightweight and Powerful 1400 lumens Headlamp

Another addition to the NU range from Nitecore, the NU50 is based around a high performance 21700 battery built into the body. This helps keep the weight and size of the new NU50 down, at just 146g (5.15oz) weight, and with a size of 83.4mm (3.28”) x 48.5mm (1.91”) x 43.9mm (1.73”).

The NU50 has 5 power levels with a Turbo output of 1400 lumens, which can reach as far as 130 metres. A Red LED light is also included and can output static or flashing modes. At the ultralow level of 8 lumens the NU50 can run for as long as 180 hours.

A built in sensor protection feature will ramp down the output when close objects are detected to stop overheating or damage to items.

Nitecore have impact tested it to 2 metres, with a weather resistance rating of IP68. A stamped aluminum front panel helps rigidity, and also assists in removing heat build up.

USB C charging is fast and capable of fully charging the headlamp to full from flat in just 2.5 hours.

Powerful 1400 lumens with 5 levels and a red LED light

Nitecore have again used their new optical lens called “Truevision +” with a high transmission of 94%, and gives a wide even/soft beam profile for illuminating a large area. The hotspot is softer and more diffused compared to traditional lenses.

5 Power levels give you an even spread of output suitable for many tasks. From an Ultralow of 8 lumens, a low of 100, then 300 and 600 lumens, up to the top output of 1400 lumens. A top range of 130 metres can be achieved in Turbo, plenty of distance and spread in the beam pattern.

The main white LED also has an SOS and Beacon mode.

Red Auxiliary LED can be set to constant on or slow flashing, with a power level of 5 or 10 lumens (5lm constant and 10lm flashing). This is useful when you want to be seen or attaching the headlamp to a bag or other item.

Two button interface, for easy operation

Ease of use on the headlamp is enhanced, thanks to the dual buttons on the top. The main mode button (the smaller round one), which changes the light sources (or operation mode), a larger longer rectangular one has a textured finish making it easy to feel by touch. This turns the NU50 On/Off and adjusts the power output.

The built in battery is charged via the common Type C connection. This has a rotating cover which provides some protection for the port from dirt/dust. Fast charging is supported with a flat to full time of 2.5 hours.

The NU50 also has a lock out function. To ensure that the headlamp won’t activate by accident, and the sensor ensures it won’t cause any damage should it be turned on and left up close to an object, or carried in a bag.

The bracket is close to the centre of gravity, which gives a more comfortable fit, and improves stability.

A 4 stage battery LED is clearly visible on the case, giving you a great idea of how much capacity is left in the cell (1-4 levels in 25% stages).

The NU50 is built to last and survive even in the harshest condition being rated to IP68 water and dust protection, with a drop test of 2 metres. The body is constructed from strong polycarbonate and aluminum alloy.
